The “WP Categories Widget” is a simple plugin to display the list of categories for any taxonomies type (WooCommerce Product Category, Blog Category, Project Category…etc) on your wordpress website. Using WP Categries Widget you can display list of categories anywhere on your website. And also you can disable the widget block editor and enable the classic widget layut to edit the sidebar.

Works great, does as it says, code is clean, authors are fast and responsive, go the extra mile and more with support, and are really solid behind it...
Just started a new Self-Hosted WordPress blog @ Hostinger and have searched for days to find a Categories drop-down plugin for my sidebar. Easy to use 'n it worked w/o any issues.
Ditto on the \o/ ‘Hippity hip Hoorah‘ \o/
Simple and efficient plugin with good support.
With added option in version 1.4.1 at widget settings to define the default category text for dropdown categories list. Which is very useful if you are using other language than English.
Didn't work on my WP site. Added as widget, deselected some categories, they still show up on the sidebar. Breaks entire theme. Main body is blank. No posts display in body if category is selected.
Great plugin to add a functionality that should be already in wordpress core. I have a few improvements to suggest:
- option to show all terms visible in a simple list, without the need to click the arrow to hide/show their children terms. Preferably without javascript, thus making it easier to style the list with custom CSS only.
- option to make the initial state of the children lists all expanded instead of hidden.
- option to hide a parent term but not their children.
- option to make a parent unclickable, working only as a visual parent for their indented children list.
- different sorting options other than alphabetical.
- add a class to terms that are associated with current post so it can be highlighted with CSS.
- advanced mode where user can select multiple terms before submit, working as a search filter, and a button for clearing all selected terms.
(Initial review:) Love the extra control of category lists and the ability to choose which categories to show and which to hide. The upgrade allows even more options, including CSS, which my native theme does not allow! Would like to see the option in the future to have the CSS for this plugin default to the theme's CSS for sidebar widgets. Other than that, all good!
Update, a few days later:
Gradually, my site loading got slower and slower, particularly as I began to take advantage of the Custom CSS feature in the Pro version.
The first thing I noticed was that the Custom CSS sometimes applied only to the widget, but sometimes, it had site-wide effects, which is definitely NOT what is wanted.
The second thing was that there did not seem to be any access to CSS for the list (categories) elements.
I contacted support, asking for the default CSS settings, but despite the promise of "Faster support" for the Pro version, I have not heard anything back... nor from my very first support enquiry. So, two enquiries, no answers.
How do I know that this plugin caused the site to slow almost to a standstill? Because, when I finally removed it completely, after first trying to simply reinstall the widget and after then simply deactivating the plugin, neither of which corrected the slow load of the website, everything went back to normal, i.e. the site is now loading correctly.
I would have welcomed some feedback and support from the author of this plugin, but this was not forthcoming, so I had no choice but to reduce the rating and give this update.
